My dickhead mate once had a Standard 10 (remember them??) he put brown paper under the big end shells and filed the caps.

If it was one of mine it would have been a slice from a Coke can.

I have done some dodgy things, mostly to get a track passed over the pits.
Suspension bushes packed full of Coke can shims.
Broken spring leaf hidden by a dab of grease.
Brake lights operated by a switch on the dash instead of the pedal.
Chassis cracks hidden by well applied mud.

I don't think I have ever sold a car, I just end up keeping them forever.
There is a big difference between what you normally do and what you have to do to keep a truck earning money. If the parts are coming from Japan by ship and it is going to take 6 weeks you can't afford to take the truck off the road. So you just have to get creative. When the proper parts arrive you can do the rebuild properly.

I did sell a bad truck once, but the bloke I sold it to had sold me an engine that blew up 1 week after the warranty run out. So I figured we were even.

wel seeing as how my partner gave me the car to share with her I took the plunge.
Its off to get painted now,
rossa corsa red and white gt stripes.
the engine is coming out and while its out I will be doing the following,
Pistons, rings, bearings, crank Polish, double timing chain and gears.
dress up kit,
oh and the head is getting polished.
new wild cat exctractors and exhaust system,
new drums for the brakes.
can anyone think of anything else?

Get wise and put disc brakes on it.

Please... Before the nice paint gets ruined by the car you run into the back of.

Can you fit an 1100 crank to a 998? That would at least give it some torque to get up those hills aroung Hobart.

Factor at least $1500 for new, unless you've got some of the parts already and recondition/rebuild them.

Yeah you can, but only if you fit 1098cc pistons - otherwise the pistons will stick 150thou (???) out of the top of the block.

Yep it goes straight in, uses same conrods but you need 1098 pistons too (their pin to crown height is .148" less).
Good mod, I have a few of these `998 strokers'...
