i know it would be pretty outragous to randomly change the adr requirements and that is going to be my argument on the side of the road if i ever get pulled up on it, the engineer that told me is "the rev doctor" in hornsby, i was chatting to him about why my rotor wouldn't start and he is also going to rewrite my engineers cert for my celica, the topic came to noise and all the cannon sort mufflers are going to be come illegal from a date to be set early next year,

so from what i have gathered what they might be doing is pulling anything over that is loud, DB testing it and then it may be up to the driver of the car to prove that the car was as loud as this in the 60-70's, if they kept these records it would be helpful,

either way its going to be something similar to get hoons off the roads and a few off us may get dragged along,

At the end of the day, it is irrelevant what the muffler is off. Your car will be legal as long as it passes sound tests - usually 96dB at 4000rpm or three quarters of where maximum HP is achieved, +/- 250rpm.

At one metre!!

In NSW it is 96db at 3000rpm at a distance of 2 metres and an angle of 45deg from tail pipe.
How do I know this, I was tested about 3 weeks ago on my way home from work.
And for the record it came in at 92db.
Cheers Pete

i have seen a mini with a motorbike muffler on it. Looked nice for a
muffler too. I saw it featured in a Mini World a while back so you can imagine what the
rest of the car looked like. [now where is that vomiting emoticon?]

I don't think so. The mufflers I seem to remember were more of a triangluar shape. I could be wrong and my memory could be going though.......what was the question again? :P

Well it wouldn't really surprise me if NSW introduced stupid exhaust laws - they did so for motorbikes, where you are not allowed to fit any exhaust other than the original, unless you get it retested and certified. A bit of a bugger if your exhaust rusts out or is damaged in an accident, and you have to spend big $$ getting an original.

But I can't see them introducing a law that is effected retrospectively, especially with ADRs. It just won't get through if it could potentially mean modifying standard cars to meet the new laws?
