No worries Win, and I'm not using the term "Purist" in a derogatory sense. I have nothing but admiration for people with the patience to do a restoration that's 100% accurate. There were some absolutely magnificent cars at the Grand Day Out and I enjoyed looking at them all. Good luck in your search for verisimilitude.

I tend to encounter more trainspotters in the Citroen world as there is a fairly universal disapproval of the use to which I put my DS. (Motorsport)

One possible path for you if you can't get the right regulator is to remove the insides from one of the old types and install the non-original item inside out of sight.

Now that I think of it, though, if you had an old type regulator you wouldn't need a new one.

Ah well, another glass of red and my brain may start working!

Cheers, Pottsy.

It is true what Mick said. All or most Auto electricians these days want to sell you a new alternator reason being that most of them will not have the parts available to fix them. I am an Auto Electrician and I was always trained to repair. There would not be many Auto Electricians like me left that prefer to repair instead of replace. I keep quite a stock of Lucas parts and I am always buying it in bulk when I can find it. I also have a number of Later type brand new Lucas Alternators that produce $65 amps as used on the Rover Minis. As I used to race minis at Speedway with High compression engines and large capacities around 1465cc and up I always used to find the Lucas M35 starter motor being a week spot in the whole Mini concept. Many times it used to be Caput at the end of the Meeting or when the Ladies race used to be on, so my wife used to be very upset. That is when I started tinkering with fitting Bigger and more reliable starter motors to the Mini Engine. My first one was the old Bosch starter that was used on the early Holdens and Fords which I fitted a front bracket out of a Cortina 2 lt starter to and the drive out of a Sigma starter. These worked very well but they were Damn heavy. These days I am modifying Bosch planetary geared starters which work very well and are close to a Kilo Lighter than the old Lucas unit and wind any engine over like it lacks compression ! These starters are specially designed to fit even when there is an Oil cooler mounted in front. I have sold these starters to many Mini racers all over Australia and overseas. . I am at present trying to fine tune one that will fit the A Plus engines with Virto Clutch and flywheel that will also allow fitting an oil cooler in the usual place for those people running an A Plus engine in a Cooper S and want to fit an Oil cooler in front. The original A+ starter has the solenoid pointing forward an obstructs fitting the oil cooler. My version had the solenoid underneath and leaves heaps of room out front. I always advertise my Business in the QMOC Mag. It is amazing how Fast Mini news travels and how far it gets.
