There is a Moke about somewhere (Qld?) registered with a midmounted Toyota Camry I think, but it was built before current regs came into force.

There was one in NSW a few years back with a SUzuki swift GTi motor mid mounted but I haven't seen anything of it for a while .

Yep my bro' got some parts from there. I made a few he couldn't get anywhere, like steering column bushes.
I also got the last set of std Imp main bearings in Oz for $100, they are NLA everywhere now. Only size available in Oz now is -.010" from Jerry, the bloke who races a black Imp. He paid $BIG so ACL would redo their tooling and make him a bunch up.
For big end bearings, Mini ones work if narrowed a bit.

I'd ask Tricky about putting a bike engine in the rear.. I was talking to him about it a while ago and he knew all about it. I think it's because the bike engines don't go through the same emissions testing as car engines.

But I think he was arguing that they go through another test which is the same or better...

I just remembered an engineering student in Perth who is building one, I gave him a clubbie rolling shell as a base car, I'll send you his name and phone number in a PM

Personally, I'm against cutting up Imps to make hybrid cars, i.e. motorcycle engined specials. There's very few left, and once you've converted one, there's even fewer. There's plenty of other cars which are more plentiful for what is basically a joke: a car which goes a lot faster than it should.

There's a whole lot of cars which are becoming increasingly rare, for which parts are scarce: Honda S600s, Suzuki Frontes, Imps, that weird Subaru mini-car and so on. I'm inclined to advise leaving them alone. There's plenty of Minis in every country which sold them which have rotted out along the sills etc which make a good base for cars like this, or you can start with a new shell, something Imp owners only dream about.

What would be funny is a Morris 1100 with a Hyabusa in the back...

As if by magic!! You know you want too!!! :D

Why bother with the hassles of going for a bike engine when you could
use a 4efte, 4age, B16, B18, etc. in the back

Much less difficult to get engineered I would imagine :!:

got this in a forwarded email not so long ago. Notice the QLD rego plates.

Quote:
Here is a quick update on my Honda S600 with the ZX-12 power plant.

I thought I had some clutch issues after a big day out at Willowbank raceway for the Power cruise earlier in the year. A few weeks back my new billet clutch basket and clutch parts arrived from the States and was fitted with a new engine oil cooler as well to help keep the oil at a nice temp. unfortunately I didn't get to drive the little beast as it had a broken axle. Maybe MX-5 axles aren't that strong in a 700kg car. Snapped the spline off inside the CV joint closest to the LH wheel hub. That would explain why it wanted to drive but seemed as if the clutch was slipping. It was not the engine clutch but the LSD clutch pack slipping.

While it has been off the road it has also got the front end sorted with some new front control arms with a bit more adjustability in them to get some neg camber onto it. The suspension has also had a few tweaks to stiffen it up a bit as it was way too soft before. And lastly a bit more movement in the throttle to give a more progressive movement instead of the on or off switch it used to have. Now double the travel under the size 12 :-)

Now getting some flash billet axles made so I don't have a repeat of that again. I have now been told that the drive line is almost unbreakable. I would have to do something very very stupid to get a failure now. They won't give me 100% guarantee. Looking forward to the next time I get to drive it at Christmas and those 12,000 rpm clutchless shifts. If you see a blue flash from the lights on the Goldy or Brisvegas and sounds like a big bore bike, look twice as it may be me grinning like a dead fox and the wind in my……………………
