What did you set your tappets to?

I normally set standard rockers to 0.012".

Some people make the mistake of setting them to 0.019" because in the manual that is the measurement specified for checking valve timing.

Did you readjust your valve clearances after retensioning the head after you got it hot?

The rule of 9's that Scott mentioned is a good way of doing them. Remember you can adjust two at a time.

If you dont have standard rockers sometimes they can scrap against the rocker cover itself which might be a cause of this noise. On a few engines that I have fitted these too the rocker covers have needed a little modification (Die Grinder or scourer pads work well. The latter is less severe)
