The engine I have was built in the early 90s by car a mob called Telltune they supplied the pistons maybe they got some compression back by decking the block and or the head . The pistons did very few miles and are in good nick, I was going to reuse them with new rings

$100 for the new pistons is cheaper than having to pull it out and apart again because the pistons were 2nd hand.... I reused some Mahle forged pistons in my dad's engine with new rings - never again

Ive got a set of .030" mahle pistons too they cost me $200 in about 1984 probably about 2 weeks wages as an apprentice . I agree a new set of hypatechs for less than $200 is an absolute bargain, so why use 2nd hand pistons ? I reckon half the fun of these cars is the pulling apart and putting back together but that is part of my affliction  (I also have a 70s pommy bike)

obviously it's a big part of the fun... but I like the idea of putting it together and using it for a while before I have to pull it apart again ;)

I put a set of S/H Mahle forged flat tops in my last 1310 motor 12 years ago, I bored the block to fit pistons then put new Hepolite rings on. It went hard, did track days at Wakefield Pk at over 8000rpm, then one track the day there #4 piston cried ENOUGH! and rattled. So I drove it home to Sydney...
It had done about 46,000 miles by then so not bad I guess.
Mahle were good pistons in their day, but the skirts were a bit flimsy... once they got a bit hot and went out of shape that was it.

I'm now running 73mm Hypatecs in a 1300 auto block, it's 1360cc.
The old 1310 block now has a set of 73mm decked Hypatecs and a stroker crank, it's 1412cc.
