I had heard that rumour a number of times, so put it to three people most in the know at the time - the Enfield Plant Manager, Production Engineering Manager and one of the service technicians.

All said the same thing, and the truth will be revealed in the magazine. The short answer is there was a big hailstorm and a lot of Minis were damaged, but that was completely independant of the Mini SS.
