I run twin 1-1/2s on the wife's 1293 but I wouldn't put them on a 1098.
My 1132 Moke is getting a 40DHLA Dellorto and 1275 head (coz I have one).

Other thing to remember is a twin 1 1/2" manifold is harder to find and will probably cost more again than a twin 1 1/4" one .

If you're upgrading from a single 1-1/2" or 1-1/4" and you've got a half decent cam and exhaust, you'll notice a pretty substantial improvement. Mine was a different car 8)

Best twin HS2 manifolds are the non-Cooper ones, like the square one Ian posted.
Factory ones have a crap shape at the balance pipe.

What sort of improvement would you see with that manifold?

I always thought they were cheap and nasty , I was going to swap the rebuilt twins from that one to a BMC one but won't now .

Some more pics of similar manifolds for the hell of it then .

Vizard said that on factory ones (he says they are bad) you could put a radius from the balance pipe into the port to improve it a bit, but on a 998 Cooper or S manifold the bloody steel location ring is there in the way. :x
I like the old l y n x or Warneford ones, they locate on the studs. Just tidy them up a bit inside and port match to your carbs and head.

i seriously cant wait to have them in my car. the carbie set up has been sitting on my toolbox for the last 6 months and i gave it to mini king last week and said do wat you gotta do to get them in top nick and ring me when your ready to put them in the car. cause there extremely busy now. so now its only a matter of time.

never thought a mini place would get so busy.

Try David Rosenthal in SA , 0429088100 , he does a very good job , and for a very reasonable price , $180 , complete overhaul for twin SU's, that includes fitting miniature bearings to the shaft , same as weber has ........ you will never have shaft problems again ............cheers

Don't forget The Maniflow inlet manifold! Better than the square style yet again! Bit more coin, but hey!

They custom make to suit your carb sizes, & head inlet ports, but provide them with flanges to fit any SU carbs. If you change up a size, port the manifold, away you go!

Cheers

That Maniflow looks like the twin Amal Monobloc one I made back in the 60s, chromed and all. 8)
But mine was 15° to stop the Amal carbs flooding.

or go for a nice single HS6

ditto..... HIF44 or HS6

GR's 1400 stroker, 14 second 1/4 mile.... single SU

all the big power motors (small and big bore) in the UK mags run a single HIF44

if you've got twins, use them, if you don't, then sort out a single properly
