I've tinted the windows on my Mini. Looks great with the metallic paint. It would probably look less good on an original 850.

In saying that, my mate has an original ex-NSW Police Cooper S in Zircon white, with tinted windows and I think it looks excellent.

My very first Mini was Red with a black interior (alot like my BINI actually), anyway, it was tinted and went to s$#7 so I got out the razor and removed it. The car was alot warmer than before but everyone said it looked better without the tint.

The BINI looks good with the tint because of the pillars and roof (both are black), this is the same effect as my GTI swift had.

If you like cruising with the drivers window half way down, don't get tint, you will get a line in the tinted side from dust in the felt thingy in the door.

IMHO, generally the rule is dark, shiny cars look decent with tint, but light coloured cars, tint does not suit.

although, a white car witha light tint looks pretty sweet... body has to be in good nick though

I have noticed a big difference with the cloth on my back seat not fading as fast since I have tinted the windows to the LS.

Also when Adelaide got hit with the 15 day straight heat wave I was still able to drive it out to Mallala Race way and I kepted reasonably cool (unlike the motor though!).

Yes, it has definitely made it look not as classic but it's personal prefs, comfort and protection of the interior that made me glad I did it.

cheers,

Dave.
P.S. - Not exactly legally tinted either.......javascript:emoticon('')

I figure my mini is going to be hot because the motors at my feet and theres no insulation. Hell atleast it will be nice and sunny inside without the tint.

I reckon my LS came with tinted windows from factory. So in order to be original, and stay 'classic' I would need tinted windows.

I tinted the back van windows in the mini. Its pretty easy to do if you have patience. I don't so it was a bit frustrating for me!. Use a spray bottle to wet the sticky side pop it against the window and get all the bubbles out. when its wet it still moves about and doesnt get thos e big pockets of air you see. Once it dries out it sticks and looks good. I cant remember if I trimmed the tint to the window shape before removing the protective layer or after applying.

After I spent a few hours doing it, about a week or two later Was helping my bro move some stuff and got a big scratch on one window. Was shattered.

Ive tinted my 1973 clubby, wayyyy wayyy darker than the legal limit. :) :) Looks great with the metallic paint. In QLD no one picks you up for it, they have bigger things to worry about. ie car road worthy as in rust in the shell and tyre tread. I have been through numerous copper stops DUI"S and police pull overs, and have never been pulled up for it. The only regret is that it is very hard to see out at night time, sometimes I have to wind down the side window to see out :( But i must say it really helps keeping the heat out, especailly for a car with no air con, ITS GREAT :) but to make it work, you need to have the darkest the tinting places can make it, otherwise its a waste of time for trying to keep the heat out.

Lockie :)

Actually, you don't have to go dark. Lightly tinted films can shield a lot of UV's and heat too from what I've heard.
