That is shocking, I would go see them, ask to talk to the manager, explain what you asked for, explain and show what you got, point out that they have damaged your property, and request they sort out the situation, with a new dash and a proper install.

Be polite, ask the them if they consider it a good example of their work, and if they still aren't forthcoming with a solution be prepared to go to small claims court.

Sorry to hear of this, but you might see a solution from them yet!

Good Luck

Matt

Thats bollocks mate, they should of done what you asked, and then if they did have to screw through the face they should of given you a courtsey call.
Rounded off screws will just make it harder if you need to remove them later.
I'd be telling them what a crap job, if worse comes to worse ask for better speakers at the front at no extra cost and you wont worry about the screw holes.

your biggest problem is that the hole you have the soeakers in is not big enough for the basket of the speaker to fit in, you will have to enlarge the hole so the speaker can sit flush on the dash, crap job all around there

gee I would totally spit the dummy, that seems to happen alot to me i dont know if they do that to everyone or just me coz im a girl and they think i may not notice...but i do. My mini went into the crash repairer after a 4wd smashed it up(i wasnt in the car) but it came back from the repairer with a bent aerial, broken wheel arch glued back on, carpet all messed up and dirty bum prints on the seat and my dash put back on terribly. And also new scratches on the bonnet. I had a whinge and they fixed most of it up thankfully, the rest I did myself. But some places just dont understand how special classic cars are...IT MAKES ME SO MAD!!

Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to fashion up some brackets that would allow you to mount the speakers from the rear possibily out of that strapping most audio installers have with the elongated holes in it

So I'd say it makes them lazy and dishonest

Good luck resolving it :)

Thanks for all your responses.
You have helped me decide to go back and get this fixed and that I am not over reacting.
If I post the name of the business you will know I was not successful.

I have learnt a big lesson from this and that is anything I can do myself I will.

cheers,

Dave.

Don't be silly - the forum has rules about posts that can be seen as defamatory.

Instead if they do not resolve this, tell them openly that you are resolved to take them to your local dept. of fair trading and then to the tribunal or small claims court. The process is actualy very friendly to the consumer so those guys will be rather eager to avoid going to court.

Defend your rights and it'll teach them not to treat their customers like suckers.

I showed the bloke at the show room not to drill into the alloy dash and he advised not a problem they will screw from the back of the dash. Guess what, the b#st%^@s drilled four holes for each speaker into the alloy.

If they found they could not do what you ask, then they should have ceased working on your car and given you a call telling you so.

They can't just go ahead and do what they think is best, its your car and your cash.

Make them pay for it.

No, you're not making too much of the situation at all. Hope you can get it sorted out. Had a similar dodgy experience a few years ago.

Had an original VW beetle that had never had a stereo installed. Bought a head unit and speakers, and was going to install myself but was told I had to get a 'professional' to install otherwise I void my warranty. Installed the speakers myself and had them install the head unit, assuming they would do a neat professional job.

When I came back there were 'gouges' out of the steel dash where they'd slipped with a grinder or something, a big hole in one of the original dash knobs (must have slipped with a screwdriver or something), and they'd completely trashed an air hose behind the dash. I complained and they said they'd fix it. came back with some gaffa tape around the broken hose, and some clear silicone in the broken knob. Dodgy!

These guys are used to working on new 'plastic' cars where things just clip together, quick and easy. If you want something done right on an old unique car, either do it yourself or get someone you trust to do it. And don't expect other people to have the same amount of care and respect for the car as you do.

Sorry for jumping in late.

I think it is not unreasonable to complain. If you are paying a professional to do a job, then it should be done professionally to your expectations. If it turns out any less than that, I would take it back and complain. I would expect either replacement or compensation.

At the minimum I would make an huge racket in their store in front of other customers to show that you are very disapointed.

What I hate more than shotty work is when mechanics and other car professionals think they can do a half arsed job because "it's only a mini". Well mate, if I asked you to install this $700 sound system into my Ferrari, would you treat me different? If so that's grounds for complaint to management...
