Next issue of TME will have all the guff on the 1275LS.
Current issue (just out) covers the 998 SS and LS.

The 1275LS would be the best equipped and most comfortable Mini but probably the worst made. Mine has been off the road since 1990 due to the factory installed rust.

Leyland did actually know all the details of the 1275LS and other post 74 cars (the Enfield built cars) It was when they closed Zetland at the end of 1974 and threw out all the paperwork for the previous cars that the trouble occured.
The paperwork for the later cars was probably only chucked out in the last few years.

Yep, the late pommie ones were the only ones that could rust quicker than the 1275LS.

If they had moved the rotodip to Enfield, maybe the LS's wouldn't have dissolved so fast...
My boss/mate has 4x LS, all off the road... one (shell only, kept indoors) is almost rust free!

Hard to believe, but I have a 1978 Clubby S here with NO rust..
It's slightly bent in front though, the `keep left' sign won.

It's depressing really , look how many '62/'63 850's are still around with little rust compared to late clubbies .
