If we are talking about Minis, no drum brake models had a booster. Cooper S Mk1 had a Lockheed booster, Mk2 S, GT etc had a PBR VH44J.

VH40 is a larger booster, as mentioned most likely from an Austin 1800 and I think they can be made to fit with some effort - but probably not worth the bother unless you picked one up cheap.

Thats what you get from holding 3 or 4 lines of thought in your head at once.

Disk/Drum thinking was coming from thinking if you wanted a VH44 from the wreckers then look on drum brake cars - Toranas and the like.

Shouldn't reply to forum threads will also working and answering phones at the same time

VH44J was an option on drum braked Minis too, according to M1100.

Well, I'm yet to see one, but being BMC that certainly wouldn't surprise me.

I would have thought a booster would be over-kill.
Wern't drum brakes sposed to have some sort of "self-servo" action?
When new, you could just about stop a drum braked mini on a dime.

The VH44B (not the J) was an option on Minis from at least 1966 (it is listed in the 66 options list) Notice that this is way before they were fitted to the Cooper S.

The VH40 is a bigger diameter booster which gives higher line pressures.

There is not really a specific disk or drum booster. You just fitted the right booster for the job. PBR made a lot of different models with different amounts of boost. You can find VH40 and VH44 boosters fitted to a lot of Australian cars in the 60s. I can remember my dad getting a booster fitted to his HK Premier. I can also remember my Auntie breaking her sunglasses the first time she drove the car. She was just nosing the car down the driveway and she gave the brake pedal the usual amount of pressure needed to stop a Holden (a great big shove) and her head hit the steering wheel breaking her sunglasses! She was not expecting that amount of braking performance.

Check out early Alfas GTV2000 and Berlinas. Early ones had Bonaldi boosters (same as Lockheed), later ones had 2 VH44s.
