Why do you want to hang out with that crowd anyway?

Most of the cars just follow trends, they just do whatever is 'cool' at the time and take it as if it was their own idea of coolness.

Big rims, big stereos, whitewalls, rainbow paint, led's, turbo. you and 20 mates all wearing shirts with the cars numberplate on the back.

It's like 4WDer's wanting to go on a cruise with minis.

Autosalon is so not the look for a classic car - that's why they have the cutoff date, they don't even want old cars in there. Why try and fit in where you're not welcome?

According to Graham Robson's book, MINI - A Celebration Of Britain's Best Loved Small Car (available from The Mini Experience - shameless plug), Mini vans and pickups were finally discontinued in May 1983. (they still had the 848cc engine as standard right to the end!)

Well, in the UK that is. In Aus they were (naturally) discontinued in 1978 but were fitted as standard with 848, 998 and 1098.

Well, yes, of course, but the original question was, were any vans builkt in or after 1986 anywhere. The short answer is no because they were discontinued in the UK in 1983.

They were of course discontinued in Australia much earlier - did they continue up to end of production in 1978? I'm looking into this. I have seen 1977 models, but not later.

Cheers,
Watto.

I figured that was the case, was just clarifying for those playing at home.

I'm sure one of the vans I wrecked was a 78. But now you make me wonder if it was a 77?? I'll see if I can find the build plate, it's around here somewhere!

Thanks Anto.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Don't forget, though, that the date on a compliance plate is the delivery date to the dealership and may not be the month the car was actually assembled.

Cheers,
Watto.

Well I remember the thinking at the time that it was a late model. But I don't remember whether it had dual circuit brakes or pullution control - although I would think being a commercial vehicle they wouldn't necessarily have adhered to the same ADR requirements?

Thanks Poeee, I'll check it out with Birdwood.

My van is a 1977 model, and does not have the dual system master cylinder (thank god!). It does have the charcoal cannister, but I don't know if it ever had the air-pump as the original motor is long gone.

Cheers,
Watto.

has anyone thought that this might actually be a career move?

thats the main reason im doing this, if i can do a top notch job on a mini van, or mini, then people might take an interest in my work, and bring business to me
theres alot of money in autosalon, look at how xquisite customs, north west customs, even blackneedle trimmming here in penrith are fairing!

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure Mutant was originally a 1973 (?) Mini. It has had one or two changes since new, though.

Er, don't you mean money is no substitute for good taste. You can't buy good taste, but bad taste comes for free.
