Yes 1275's will always have the extra hp to begin with, but look at whats been done to small blocks lately...wouldnt mind a run in Bens 1098 lol, or Petes for that matter....geez even GRs lil NA 998 would be a blast

Bens - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI57mqPSOu4

Petes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-zrRHmv7mI

GRs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4XCQm-w29E

Plus already having both a 998 and 1275 to start with, you have a few more extra $$s to spend

those turbos are f*cking cool.... I'm envious of them, and GR's 998 is awesome

imagine if they were big bores!

yeah i love the smallblocks, but when it comes to power, a mild bigblock would waste a crap hot smallblock, theres no substitute for cubes

and the bigblock's are nicer to drive up hills and such like.

There was only about 5HP between Ben's turbo 1152 and Grant's turbo 1293, so I reckon I'd be turboing a smallbore. If ya bust it, just grab another off the pile in da corner...

A lot more fun to be had from a hot smallbore...and bragging rights...

I would love to do one as a project...but one thing at a time is my time limit...

Hahahahaha, sorry that made me laugh... Ill take on anyones N/A big bore except Griegs in my pissy little 1132 and reckon I would give em more than they bargained for.

Hills? pfffft, bring it on...

Bens 1152 will make more power than Grants if he does more work to it, easy work I might add. (Obviously unless Grant up's the boost or works his)

Man I should really get the 20psi 998 built...

1275 Turbo, yeah, make massive power but broken 998/1098 parts are easier and cheaper to get than 1275 parts.

Pete

Hey,

If any of you had $5000 - $6000 and had to replace the engine in a mini and was doing as much of the work as you could. What would you do?

Blake

Blake, for $5k-$6k you are actually limited if you want massive HP... talk to GR as mentioned and I KNOW you can get a really strong smallbore or bigbore.

Obviously my opinion is biased but I would go a smallbore turbo anyday... more power than you will know what to do with, not fuel guzzlers (cubic inches also does mean more juice)

Cheers,
Pete

If you had that much cash to spend why dont you just buy the 1380 with gearbox from mini speed you cant go wrong and you would have money in your pocket?

Put it towards an already built and proven 1380 or bigger crate motor from MED, Bill Richards, Swiftune, Manx, etc. Or buy a 1275 locally and send it to GR or one of the other top reputable Aussie A series builders for the treatment (not sure who's still around now).

All you need for a scorching road going Mini is 110-120 hp and 100 ft /b which you can buy off the shelf for the right dosh.

Depends what your definition of mild and poo hot is...but a poo hot small block (like GR's 998) eats the mild big blocks for breakfast, so your statement is flawed.

IMO a hot small block is much much more fun to drive than a stock to mild big block. Parts are also cheaper.

Thanks guys for all your ideas. MMM I still dont know. I love the sound of a 1380cc with 100+ BHP with a possible twin cam head but then again a fun boosted small bore. But with a small turbod engine with 10+psi isnt there a chance of breaking things more often?

Is it worth importing an engine from england? or just get someting and get GR to have a fiddle with it?

Thanks
Blake

IMO, No. Go to GR if you want something good.

Smallblocks can make the power you want. You don't need 10psi to get 100HP from a turbo smallblock. Ring GR talk to him, tell him what you want and he will steer you in the right direction be it with a big block, turbo small block or whatever you need based on your budget and needs.

If you don't know what you want then i wouldn't be asking here - everyone has their own opinion from the big block guys, the small block guys the forced induction guys and everyone is right they're all good :D

Me...i'll just beat you all in my conversion :P *runs*
