Hey John

I have that exact combo of PBR and Lockheed Aluminium alloy brake and clutch master cylinders as you posted in that pic.

Problem is I am unsure which is which as they have been off the car for so long.
I believe that one should have a return spring and I should know which is which from that.... they have both been re-sleeved and new kits installed and just by compressing each I cant tell which might have the return spring.
Without taking them apart.... based on brand alone... can can I make an assumption on which is which?

Cheers

The easiest way to work them out which John told me was to slide a piece of wire or similiar into the top where the line goes in to, the brake MC has a valve which stops the wire going in and the clutch does not so the wire will go all the way in.....

Blackdog, make sure you use soft wire, wouldn't want to scratch the bore of the clutch master cylinder.
Checked my cylinders today, brake is alloy Lockheed with markings B A I.
Clutch is cast iron Girlock with markings E33 and number stamped 969
(or if you look at it the other way up 696)
I've had them both resleeved with stainless steel and re kitted.
Plastic reservoirs are the same marked Lockheed but the caps are different, one has GIRLING Girlock Lockheed on it and the other has just Lockheed without the L and within a triangle.
I've decided to get some clear engine lacquer and see how that goes.
I can always re coat them later if there's a problem.
Thanks for all of your response.
