I went to the vigil website and saw that they had a mix of Lumley and Vigil pages.

I worked in the Lumley Building in Sydney for a few months 2 years ago (and I used to have a view of it from my back garden in the first place we lived in Sydney 3 years ago) and as far as I knew they just did stuff like farm and agricultural insurance!!

Owned by the same people as Bunnings and Coles...like they don't already get enough of my money :):):)

If it's any help guys, I work for Australia's largest Ins co.
And I can say without doubt that ( and we have no connection to) overall-- Price , covers ,service, claims settlement. I would give Shannons First and last bite at my coverage

I've tried shannons a few times in the past and they keep saying no  I've been with RACQ and Suncorp now and they've both payed out on or chased the other parties insurance for me so they seem good(ish). I wouldn't want a big claim though because I think I would be screwed with them

Lumley (well Wesfarmers is one of the accounts I manage) might pop in to Lumley tomorrow and hassle my contact

Im with Shannons, the car, non-turbo'd agreed value costs me $40 a month.
Turbo'd, extra mods, all the stuff I have done, doubled the value, $80 a month (double again so ok)

I couldnt find cheaper, in anyone that seemed big and reliable enough to be around in a few years...

And they are really helpful for everything I need.

Cheers,
Pete

We've got Shannons cover on 2 Minis, AU Ford, the house and contents.
Mine is on laid-up cover at the moment, will be changed back next month.
I had it with Vigil years ago- they were OK but kept putting the agreed value down every year- when it got to $4K I swapped to Shannons and put the value up again, they were cheaper then too. :D

Im with Shannons and when my mini got hit by a 4wd, had it fixed within two weeks and a follow up call to make sure everything went smoothly :D
But when my boyfriend rang to get a quote, they told him he didnt sound like enough of an enthusiast..i kid you not! When he's a mini driver :(

Gemma,

I had an 'enthusiast' style call when I insured Olli....was a tad unusual to be asked things like 'Why an 1100 and not a Mini?' but when it all boiled down to it they were responsive, polite, inexpensive, accurate and timely with the paperwork.

In some ways it was actually good to talk to a person who was interested in cars (and my choice in cars) rather than some dullard who has no concept of what an older car is, let alone what a Morris is.

Fancy not knowing what a Morris is!!!

I used to have my Mini insured fire and theft with Vigil. Then one year, my renewal came in the mail and the premium had doubled! I rang them up, and I kid you not, the guy on the phone suggested (off the record) that I may do well to ring a few other insurance companies....

So I went to Shannons and they did full comprehensive for less than the fire and theft with Vigil.

But I always go and see the Shannons people in person as they are only 2.5 minutes down the road from my work. You get a much better result than talking to somebody on the phone. And they are enthusiasts too - every car I've insured with them, they've gone out to have an admire of the car. Or maybe they just want to secretly inspect for previous damage that I haven't mentioned. :P

I like Shannons, when i had my last mini they had no record of its type on their system (boho knows the one of which i speak) so just took my word for it all over the phone and gave me a good price. Got both cars with them now, been with them continually for about 7 years.
