I think we are on the same wavelength...

However in defence of the original poster, people do conversions, people turbo cars, people put in pink fluffy seat covers... in this case, he wants to make a car that looks like a Sports 850 replica... dont give him too much of a hard time, just like you wouldnt give the Cooper S replica's a hard time. Im not sure I understand why people are taking it this way... If he put up pics of a Sports 850 replica completed many of you would say 'wow' looks nice... not tear him completely apart. Go easy on a fellow Mini enthusiast ;)

As for 'fake' badges - thats a totally different story. I wouldnt build a replica Sports 850 with real badges... I reckon thats nuts :)

Lets try to look at this in a different light maybe?

Pete

And to add, Kev (Doc) has an S replica, there are Falcon XY GTHO replica's, Torana XU1 and SLR5000 replica's, etc...

Dunno, maybe I am not as concerned with building a replica though... its the misleading and selling them as real items and the theft side of it that I am concerned with, as are the rest of us.

I've got no problem with replicas - it was the "external cometics only" I was questioning - which is basically the badges

I suppose if I'm going to split hairs over badges I should take the '850' off my 63 Mini and put '1100' on it after the rebuild

My jag was built up as mechanical clone of a TWR XJR-S. I could even sell it as such. However if had sold with TWR badging a certain holder of the IP would hunt be down and sue me and that has happened several successfully.

It sure stops TWR fakes - pity it cant apply to mini fakes

I have no problem with people doing replica's and being honest with them being replica's like Kev is and the others that are the same . It's just if someone puts the work into it and then sells it as a genuine article it becomes a problem , like blokeinamoke has just said with the Jag . I know of one sports850 replica that was bought (I refuse to say who owns it but it isn't one of the well known ones) as being the genuine article and the owners now realise they have paid several thousand dollars over what their car is worth . They contacted me after finding out to see if I agreed with what they'd been told and understandably they were devastated and are looking at their legal options now .

back to the original poster , as I said in a PM , if he is going to get the badges made then change them slightly or do something so they can be distinguished as being a repro one , they'll probably stay opn the car longer too with the people who are looking for them seeing they are a repro .

Thank's for trying to keep this balanced too Pete (Pristic) , I'm passionate about this at the best of times but especially so at present after finding out about the replica being sold as a genuine one . The seller had even gone to the trouble of falsifying an owners handbook and passsport to service to suit it . They got one of P & R's mechanic's names right but wrong signature (possible if someone signed it for him after a service etc if he was at lunch) and invented another couple ....

Unfortunately since people have seen what GTHO's are going for , the scammers have been looking at other classics like mini's , especially the rare ones ....

So we really should be spreading mis-information to make it easier for the scammers to get caught.

So it really isn't a Spots 850 unless it has a Holley Blue fuel pump.

I agree...
Same reason my quick 1360 still has Mini.Matic badge on the back, and none on the front... :P

As for the wife's Cooper S replica, it was bought that way. If it was mine, it would have Deluxe badges on and lose all the budgie perches.

The bloke who made the sticker tells me its a complete one off since he found it an absolute bastard to make and refuses to make another one :)

As for replica's. In my opinion if it goes like the real thing, and makes you smile like the real thing, whats the difference?? :D
