You could use the `Kingaroy farmer' method, as Josh found on Spiro da Moke, no subby bolt loosening required at all- :!:

1. Jack up car.
2. Light oxy torch.
3. Cut one side of subby so rack can fit down and out.
4. Repeat for other side.

I AM JOKING, but yes it really was done and I still have the poor subby here as evidence.

I got a rack out last night.... for those that are in-experienced... you fondle at the front, slowly reach around the back.... after a bit of experience, its quite easily done with one hand!

yeah.. mini steering rack... pain in the backside

And dont forget to attach and tighten steering column to the rack before you fully tighten the steering rack u-bolts...this will make sure alignment is correct.....

This one is a Must...don't forget it, otherwise the spindle can wear and its the rack out again.

Thank Mini Me for that..I know I have it printed but now I have to see if I can find it on disk or the Net

Easy rack removal? Get a Morris 1100.

With the vastly superior Morris 1100 you don't need to undo the subframe, you just remove the U-bolts and rotate the rack and then slide the rack out. :D
