Sorry mick it is as oz says, if you put it on your insurance policy it will matter squat if you haven't RTA approved it, why, it makes the car illegal, it is against the law to insure an illegal car, so the insurance companies put the onus back on you saying that if you insure you car with them you are oblidged to have a legal (in the RTA's mind) car. It's all in the very very fine print. As Mini k says, the price of an engineeres cert is cheap in comparison to not and having your insuarnce co, say no! Ouch that's gonna sting!

yeah but aaron, did you read the guidelines???????? <edit> woops sorry aaron i thought this was the 1100 to 1275 cc thread. yeah a roll cage does need an engineers certificate under the RTA guidelines because it is not available from the factory, as per harness.

i go to my second point about the general know nothing knobs in insurance companies (those who are excepted from this know who they are!) who would not be able to tell the difference between a legal, (in the RTAs eyes and the civil, and criminal court systems eyes as well for that matter) and the butt end of a tutsi fly. this is the real reason they will not honour their insurance contract with you.

If you find someone in an insurance company that you can explain the RTA modification rules to, who understands that when your modifcations are were put out by the factory in another model, that the RTA does not require an engineers certificate then give them a big kiss because they should be your very best friend. in fact they should probably be running the insurance company. but then they would never get that high because i am sure they would not be the kind of greedy ruthless bastard that can get that high in an insurance company.
