I was a believer of if I can afford it - put in brand new - always...

Well, that was until my brand spanking new 3rd gear synchro snapped through the hardening. GR said 'Pete, been doing race shifts I see' - I was like no no no! First time I threw it in 3rd - CCRRUUNNCH!

Put in an old one machined after that ;)

Pete

yes, John talked me out of buying new ones, even though i thought that new would have to be better.

The old ones, checked against each gear worked a treat and are stilll working great a year later.

Thanks John!

Ryan :D

I am running newies in my box, but given this is a few years ago. I bought them straight from Minispares front desk in the UK around 2005 or so if that makes any difference. I bet they've gone through several pallet loads of these and probably several manufacturers since then...

I also have been given a jar of old synchros a while back... will be holding onto these!

My number 1 rule: don't chuck anything gearbox related out!

The last dodgy new one I bought & fitted (to the wife's car!) took 10,000km to bed in properly. Not only was the taper angle wrong, it was oval too.
Yes it was bought here- no names, no pack drill.

Looks like we need to set up an Ausmini Metrology Lab to check each and every new part
