Muahahaha!! I remember when I was charging $5/hr for super-slow 28.8kbps dialup. 20 or so modems all supplied by one 64kbps ISDN channel

They were the good old days

Before Ausmini, before the internet, before Ebay and before this over supply of information... Ive just had my mates 71 HQ GTS Monaro Coupe at my place for a few weeks. Ive been learning quite a few things about it all simply by jumping online.

Ive stripped his Holley 750 double pumper down to bits and rebuilt it, found out what a small block chev firing order is, found out where the dizzy should be positioned and that the oil pump is driven off the dizzy..

I couldnt help but wonder how much easier it would have been when i was restoring my Mini with this influx of info. I mean back in the day if I needed help, I had to make a 1300 call to the Mini Kingdom Help Line... and get charged a fairly high rate per minute. .....

Pretty sure it was Mini Clinic with the number......Didn't worry me as I always rang the switch and asked for the mechanic by name thanks to Biggles

What you also did was to check out other cars, like come round and look at a real Cooper S to see how the flares were attached . . . :D

It wasnt a 1300 number after all, it was a 1902 number charged at $3 per minute. This was back in like 1997 I think.

I remember we used to place a lot of trust in our local Mini Mechanics, good or bad...and we relied on their advice.

I remember a friend of mine having to pay 50 bucks for a genuine Clubman GT bonnet slam panel, another charged for a rebuild on their entire distributor needing instead of a simple points/ condensor replacement...I had to buy a special 1275 primary gear case once cos I didn't know any better...

I like the fact that a popular furphy can be dispelled here, questions answered, and a popular consensus reached using the particular dynamics of your engine/gearbox/carb combination.
