I cheated and got Steve to build the car from the ground up, and he did a great job, Mine has both fans fitted but because of a samll oversight, the elec one wasn't connected so that is why it wasn't working, but Mick sorted that out for me and I wired the switch up myself, to make it independant, now I got 2, to with a bit of luck, overheating shouldn't be a problem. Steve must have some laying around in the shop, give him a ring and see how you go, its was easy to fit, and there is connections already on the wiring loom, if its a Rover.

YTF is everybody keen to fit electric fans? all this does is band-aid another issue.
IMO you should fit a Morriss 1100 radiator and expansion tank,
have it cleaned and ensure core is ok,
fit a 4 blade fan,
fix bypass hose

never had temp go above 94deg even when i had a sump guard in place.

Personal choice... i had a 4 blade but it kept going out of balance, my radiator is in great condition and if i can put on an electric fan that i had lying around the place why not?

because it is 2 2 blades.... i put spring washers between them, it would all be good and dandy for a while, then the blades would start hitting the shroud so id have to bend them back into place... no idea why it went out of whack? but me having to continually bend them back into place got a little to much... IMO would be great for a race/track car (loud enough!) with a custom made radiator.... but thats just me i spose...

Why do I have an electric fan?

1. So I can get rid of the standard rad shroud.
2. So the mech fan never rubs on said shroud.
3. More room at that end of the engine.
4. Less parasitic drag = more power!

Every mini owner should do it....

BOLLOCKS !!!

I'm sure your setup works effectively, but a fan is only necessary for low speed & stop/start driving. A thermo fan gives full air flow in these conditions, an engine driven fan does not. Then there is the added bonus of no parasitic loss at speed.

I have removed the fan on my 1430cc as I am about to fit a thermo fan.
The car did not overheat driving in 35C with no fan at all.
Of course the rest of my cooling system is in top condition with bypass, late style plastic expansion tank, clean radiator and an oil cooler.

IMHO every "daily driver" should have a thermo fan instead of a mechanical fan.

The last one I did with a manual switch, but this one will have a thermo switch.
Depending on the type of sensor you have, it will either be a probe that you slip into the radiator hose or a screw in type (these are better). You can buy thermostat housings that accept a screw in sensor, and use this to switch the fan via a relay.

The ideal place for a fan switch is the bottom tank, (or perhaps inside the bottom hose). This senses hot water when the rad is not cooling due to lack of airflow.
Most modern cars with leccy fans have the switch here.

I have a Jacar kit that not only has adjustable hysteresis, but can also be used for falling temperature rate. That way I will use the Normally Closed contacts on the relay & the temp sensor will turn the fan OFF if the engine is cold, not ON if the engine is hot like most aftermarket setups. The beauty of this is that if something in the kit etc stuffs up, then the thermo fan will run by default (this is how modern ECU contolled cars are set up).
