An """Expansion""" tank is totally different to an """Over-Flow""" tank

If fitting an """EXpansion""" tank then it doesn`t matter if it`s mounted higher or lower than the radiator,,, as long as all the air is bled out of the hose between the 2 FACT!!! if air is left in the hose between the rad & the tank then it """May"" not work correctly because of the air lock.

You will also need to fit a flat cap on the radiator & the correct pressure cap on the tank & have the hose between them clamped /sealed/ tight,,, any leaks in the sytem will render the tank usless

An """Over-Flow""" tank is just that,,, it trys to help catch some of the over-flow in an attempt to recover it once the engine cools it has a good chance of sucking water back into the rad with the contraction caused by the cooling down process... simply not as good as an "Expansion" tank system tho.

also metal tanks are far better for the long term, last very very very much longer than plastic

Flat caps aren't so easy to get anymore I found out. I've got to try and find one...or modify an overflow tank type and see if that will do the work. These caps have an extra seal directly under the lid like a flat cap.

Yeah, I figured a good british parts mob would. But it's a lazy 50 odd kays, so I'll have to wait for a good excuse to add to a simple rad cap...

OK. Scratch the recirculating cap idea, it's only barely up to the job and it leaks a little. Not it's own fault, it's not designed to work with a 13 lb pressure sitting behind it constantly, it's only meant to divert a spewing radiator to a non pressurised plastic tank.

I found reason to go out to Whittlesea today, so took a detour to Link Automotive to get a flat cap. It will work much more efficiently.
