with the square indicators, we had a van here at one stage with square lights... I think it was because they could just go to the auto shop and buy them off the shelf as they are like generic trailer ones .

Just easier for whoever owned it, before we did

Don't be thrown by the square indicators, like bubba says they are just a cheap trailer spare used for convenience.

Mini Minor has YMA2S3 prefix and 8Y/U/H engine prefix. Other clues are the wind up window doors, single speed wipers, starter on the floor, magic wand gearshift and 850 style pressed metal grille. There will not be a heater or evidence of one being fitted from the factory. You should have press studs down the edges of the floor that the original vinyl floor mats were fixed to. There should not be any vinyl or padding on the dash rails only on top of the shelf and on the firewall. Missing element is the boot badge ("Morris Mini Minor"), seeing as may have had the boot replaced. However, looking at the floor and faded paint, this car was originally pale blue, so that boot may in fact be original. Original boot has the normal narrow Australian number plate holder. Yes it will have exactly the same single leading shoe brakes as the 850 as well. Interior should have plain coloured vinyl. My Toga White one originally had plain red interior. TME featured a pale blue one that has pale blue vinyl interior. Mini Minors were only built in 65-66 according to TME, so the usual parts dating should fall in this period, give or take a bit. For example, mine has 64 dated wiper motor and boot lock mech, leading me to believe it is a 65 built car, but you never know how long the parts sat on the shelf before being assembled.

Morris 850 has prefix YMA2S1 and only late ones had 8Y/U/H engine prefix. Obviously the sliding window doors. Confusing the issue is that later (end 63-64) 850s had the narrow Australian number plate holder on the boot, which would not help identity in this case. Most people assume that all 850s had the wider English number plate holder. All 850s had a two tone flecked vinyl interior. The backs of the seats and the door cards were plain colur and the front of the seats is the flecked.

hope that helps confuse the issue!

cheers
michael

It has the welded type suspension cones and single leading shoes in front.
I think that the welded cones were replaced mid 1963. Others will be able to correct me there.
The wiper date is 1/65 and my guess is the the doors/boot lid /wiper were off another car probably a 65 deluxe.

Can't let enough people know the differences between 850 and Mini Minor. Mini Minors are the rarest Australian built Minis because people just don't know what they are and do nasty things to them, so if we can identify another one that might get restored as a Mini Minor all the better.
