I run a electric temp guage sensor in the drain fitting in the bottom of the radiator. This way it gives temp into radiator[head oulet temp] and temp into engine. You can see how much the radiator is cooling the water before it goes into the engine.
A lot of over heating problems are caused by radiator not cooling the water quick enough. If the temp into eng starts to rise then you know that you are going to over heat the engine before it happens.
