i started mine up after about a year or so only last month,

kerro blasted the outside, fluch about 5 lots of water through all the cooling and some radiator flush stuff as well,

put a littl deisel down the spark plug holes and blasted kerro through it all then let it dry for a day then fluched petrol through it again to clean it out again and then finally used the flywheel to turn the engine over real slow with a oil and a little petrol in the cyclinders then again with petrol to flush it all out then blasted it all out with compressed air.

go it going pretty well, probably turned it over 10 - 15 times before trying to actually start it

Some blokes like to do things the hard way.

The first thing I do is see if the motor turns over.
If it turns over I try to get oil pressure and spark.
If I get oil pressure and spark I add fuel and start it.

Easy peasy.

Cass , are you sure this is the right mini for you to start off with , you'd probably be better with somethign running and healthy that you can drive now , not a mystery bag that's been sitting for years . You want something you can enjoy now and not be frustrated by .

I've thought about it. But I can't afford two car regos and insurances. It's something to keep the dream going. I'll pm you.

Lots of very good tips here, so i don't need to repeat them.

How old is the barina? A side effect of battery removal may be the loss of the radio security code. If it needs one, check if you have it
