In the case of a flip front you may have to speak to a few clubs and see what they say. They may require an engineers certificate, or they may not, dependant on how they interpret the rules.

It is also up to the club to apply a certain amount of interpretation of the rules (the clubs prerogative) and whether they think the mods are in the spirit of the scheme...and how the appearance of the machine will reflect on said club.

Nothing in the literature seems to offer lateral movement in roadworthy conditions, although it would be offered in the best faith by the clubs.

There is however a rally permit system at this link. The requirements look pretty extensive: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Reg ... Scheme.htm

Rally permits cost MORE than regular rego!! They are designed for people who want use grey import cars for motorsport, not historic modified cars. eg: Evo's and suchlike imported without the paperwork for road legal status. Or statutory writeoffs rebuilt for rallying.

VicRoads have changed their site in the last 12 months. The club permit pages used to say that the "vehicle should be built with an eye to what is acceptable for registration" or some such rubbish that was more open to interpretation. I guess they deliberately tightened up the wording.

Cheers,

it is entirely at the discretion of VMCI - they have a policy on what is allowed, and what is not - sure, there is a roadworthy requirement, but that's not all.

no point asking anyone on here, you need to ask the VMCI committee member responsible for the club permit scheme (check the website)

likewise for Hay, ask Declan

I was wondering when that car would turn up again, the motor that was in it was a monster. What state was the car in when it was last registered? ie did it have a cage or flip front? You may get away with the roll cage for roadworthy but unless it has been previously registered with a flip front (hard to prove as that car has been unregistered for a long time) you will need a engineers certificate. Sorry for the bad news.

This is true. As long as the club will certify it is 'safe for highway driving' and sign off on it each year, then it don't need a RWC nor comply with any ADRs (again VMCI doesn't do this). The only thing you will need to comply with is common-sense and of course the CAMS regulations for the group you are running.

This is the only way you will get a flipfront on the road legally without an engineers certificate. (not sure of other states, i'm in VIC)

Got any pics of the flipfront? Always like seeing how people do them.
