When i owned my Rover minis i went to the Rover concourse at Monash Uni, the guy at the gate told me "They are not real Rovers !, park over in the back". So off i go, park down the back, when the president of the club comes and tells me to park in the middle.
I moved the cars , told again not real Rovers, pointed to the Rover Quintet(?) I was parked next to and pointed out the wheels had HONDA cast in to them! Turned out to be her car :P

HAHAHA - nice work :D I'd expect the honda-rovers to be shunned as well...

I was filling up with fuel on the way home from Phillip Island yesterday and a MK1 Cortina pulled in with CRTV6 on the number plate - I assumed he'd have a Capri V6 in it, but there was a Commodore 3.6 V6 badge on the back - I said "you didn't put a commodore motor in it did you", he said "yeah, it seemed like a good idea at the time" - I bet he gets shunned at Ford events!

I'll bite my tongue about BMWs at Mini events

When I sold the Jag, I was talking to 900yo stuffed shirt at the Jag Car Club annual two handed polish fest. He said "so what car are you replacing the Jag with?'.

When I said a Moke - he almost fell over.

Each to their own.
One of my best cars was an old Morrie 1000. The running gear was clapped, really clapped. So I went and shoved a Corolla motor and 5 speed in it with extractors. The best thing was it looked like a granny car but man did it scream from the lights!! Don't ask about corners; not pretty.

Spot on!!!!
I'm far too lazy, one day I'll get around to doing something on my Minor ute...
The best Minor owners have no problems with Minis, and vice versa. Without (the better part of) 1 Million Minors, there may not have been a Mini. And without 5 Million Minis, Minor owners would have fewer part suppliers. :)

Just because you had a non-ideal experience with a couple of Morris owners does not mean they all deserve the title of 'Wankers'. I was tempted to mod that bit out as there is no need for name calling but I know you are just venting so i let it be for now.

Please don't use ausmini as a way of verbally bashing a car club and please don't let this experience taint your opinion of Morris owners

OMG that's fantastic - I learnt to drive in a Morris Minor too, but dad would surely never let me do that. I've told him to take it in a motorkhana or two though, it'd be a hoot - he's got a pretty grunty 1330 in his roadie, getting tired after 15 years, and now on LPG

watching that video makes me really want to go and collect my minor and finish it off - they are immense fun to drive. Just like a mini, one of the best parts about it is that you can have all the fun you want under the speed limit

Not everyone has the natural talent for drifting that Tiff has. Not saying you don't - just explaining why the average dad wouldn't let junior throw his pride and joy around like Tiff did.

It's great when people like Tiff (in that video) and Clarkson (in Thriller - he creates a chase scene with Jodie Kidd, him in a Mini, her in a Fiat 500 - both the new versions) help everyone to remember that fun doesn't come with a price tag, it comes with an attitude. 8)

Matt, I know there are some decent people in that club. It's just a matter of finding them... I know some of them through the Morris Downunder website (which also seems to have a bad rap on here - it's a much slower, more relaxed, website - not better, not worse, just different - Hagar's on there, you should see the recent rebuild he did on his 1000 - top shelf), and trust me, there are at least a few of them who aren't complete snobs. People who remember that they too are driving a 'people's car' (and one often cheaper to buy than a Mini), and not a snobby MG. :P

I definitely don't have any natural talent for driving - wait till you see the videos of me at Phillip Island - I have a natural talent for getting scared and doing the wrong thing at the wrong time

exactly - the local motorsport car club scene needs to be encouraged as much as possible to get kids out in the dirt in cheap, underpowered cars - the kids in my local club got a surprise when I started showing up to motorkhanas and doing well. The old blokes said "oh we're stuffed now", luckily for them I have no talent, just enthusiasm. There are a lot of KE70 Corollas coming out of the supermarket carparks and into the dirt - it's a good thing

Morris Downunder - thank you! I always wondered if there was a Minor forum anywhere, I figured 90% of Minor owners were too old for these new fangled computer thingys... oh wait...

Dad - http://www.morrisdownunder.com/forum/index.php

There are a few engine conversions being done on that site, too... There are others - for real conversions - insane conversions, illegal-in-Australia conversions, there's Minor Mania. But Morris Downunder is open to both original cars and conversions...

If you're going to register there, PM me your proposed username beforehand, and I'll PM the mods over there to keep an eye out. They delete all the spammers accounts on creation (hence why they don't have 27,000 registered users), but they also occasionally delete genuine new users. But if they've got a heads-up, they should let you in. Just don't talk to Morris1100 about them. :P

My natural talent is for doing nothing. Though I did install a choke cable and new boot lid seal this morning. No bad thing - the exhaust finishes well ahead of the bumper line, and my wife complains of the smell every time I drive the Mini. Hopefully it's now fixed. :)
