I hope you drilled some holes in the thermostat, otherwise you now have NO water circulation in block and head until the thermostat opens. :P
I have a Metro head I'm overhauling right now, that plug is coming out so it can get a `proper' Mini bypass hose fitted. 8)


no holes in the thermostat(s)... been like that for nearly 10 years - never had a problem - there would be plenty of convection circulation through the block & head

Simon, I don't see how you will get convection, with the thermostat closed the water pump is cavitating in a closed system, so the hot water will just rise and stay there.
Metros had no bypass hose here, but they had a sandwich plate and hose under the thermostat which achieved the same result. :wink:

oh well, maybe the thermostat is just opening earlier than normal because there's a lot of hot water in the head, but the water holes from the block to the head would be letting it circulate

another reason I'd like a bunch of temperature guage senders all over the motor - just to see where the heat is
