Like I said above however, they can replace the electronics with a new board which uses a modern fixable and reliable BJT and small PIC to give absolute accuracy through all the rev range. Cost is about $110 when I last asked 3 years ago. Add up all the frigging around, and it's not bad value....

Got a name and/or number? ;)

when you calibrate the counter at the bottom of the rev range, it is completely out at the top end.

Actually for the brief period it actually worked, I found it to be within about 100 rpm of the modern electronic tach I have in the car from idle to around 4,500 rpm. I was happy with that until it went kaput

Try Olympic Instruments in Sydney, and Otto Instruments in Brisbane. There will be guys down here in Melbourne as well if you call around.

South West Instruments (advertise in NSW Mini Club Mag) converted my RVI to electronic.

Haven't had a chance to test it yet - but very helpful and friendly... and not even a hesitation when I explained what I wanted.

Unlike here in Canberra where the response to my queries were "can't be done, just buy a new one"

Olympic Instruments used to be in Pymble, however they don't show up in whitepages now.
Either they have changed the name or gone kaput.
