It looks like a cheap turd...and is being sold by someone with half a brain as well..

"Car & bike number plate hidder"

"No one will even know it's even fitted"

"Ideal for car shows or just won'ting to be like James Bond 007"

"Net weight is o.5 Kg"

"Fits most cars though some hidders might need slightly cutting, moding for a snug fit."

"This product is not ment for road use."

That's some good england there..

Maybe these are designed for accident prevention, so the streetracer bike dude doesn't have to take a hand off the bars and lean back to exclude his rear plate at speed. As they do...

There was a video on youtube a while ago where someone had set a camera up late at night by a fixed speed camera , they claimed it was known for bikes speeding and riders covering their plates on the way through . Only thing was one of the riders it caught was standing on the right peg and using his left foot to cover the number plate , till his foot hit the back wheel and kicked him over the right side of the handlebars    No idea what image the speed camera caught but you'd have to hope he was half way through being thrown at the time ....

not sure of the truth of this but was told by un unreliable source that if u speed up through a fixed camera u will not be booked as the camera can not calculate ur speed while accelerating. any truth to this?

Nope , all that will do is increase the speed they get you for  the camera's use sensors in the road to calculate speed so it's the time taken for you to cross two lines just under the road surface ...

no worries.... I missed the 'fixed' reference - our fixed ones might be the same....

my 'non-speeding' approach to dealing with speed cameras seems to work

NSW finally fixed the accuracy problems of the mobile speed cameras. They got rid of them. :D
NSW now only has fixed speed cameras.

But they do have those lovely numberplate ID cameras. So if you want to play silly buggers with numberplates they will be able to catch you very quickly.

Top Gear did it. They drove through a speed trap using a UK-standard Gatso, and they found that, at speeds over 170mph, they couldn't get you. :o I think it was Season 1, Episode 1. This worked because, in the UK, they needed two photos to confirm the speed. Similar to Japan, where they require a photo of the driver's face - hence Clarkson's use of a Bill Oddie mask when speeding through Japan in the GT-R in Season 11 (or was it S12?).

MythBusters also tried it. They referenced Top Gear (not by name - just Jamie talking about 'a UK car show'), but pointed out that doesn't work everywhere. Certainly, it doesn't work in California, as in California, they take your photo once, and then record your speed. They used what was basically a California-standard arrangement (though it wasn't a government device, it was just their own version - using a dSLR), and with it they were able to nab a drag car doing well over the 170mph referenced by Top Gear.

So - it may well be possible. It depends on the system that your state uses. The question is, do you want to gamble with it..? :P

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but:

One early morning on the way to work (about 5:30am) I decided to give it a bit of stick out of a round about and accelerated to around 65 in a 50 zone.

What I didn't realise was that the only other car on the road (it was behind me) was a police car. Not long after I booted it the lights came on and they pulled me over.

They did the usual breatho and license/rego check and asked me how fast I was going because I seemed to accelerate a bit quick, but they couldn't get a speed on the gun.

Maybe this type of thing is what others were refering to about accelerating through radars. - This was a car mounted speed gun in victoria about 5 years ago, if that makes any differene.
