really? what makes you say that? I'm only 19 and have had my clubby for 3 years now on drums, never really had a problem with them other than the adjustment and shoe replacement.

Wait till your brakes decide to de-adjust all at once and you hit the pedal straight to the floor. Mine did when I was on P's (many, many years ago), and the next day I bought a set of Cooper S Disks and will never drive a drum brake Mini again.

Drum brakes that are faulty enough to unadjust that quickly will fail just as badly as disks with loose caliper bolts or any other number of reasons. Disks are great but drums are just fine too. "will never drive a drum brake mini again" does that mean you only ever have the front wheels on the ground? :P
My two cents and back to you lot

back when I was young and got my first mini, never even knew there were different brakes for minis. it had brakes, they worked, thats good enough for me!

a well looked after set of drum brakes will be fine. and ANY set of brakes (drum or disc) should be well looked after!

Now that we have a photo we can all see that tou have 165/10 tyres so there a a few very good tyres available in that size, my suggestion would be Yokahama A008 or Dunlop Formula R, both very good tyres and wet and dry conditions.

I dont have anything against drum brakes (my 850 van has its original single leading shoe front brakes) but discs are much better and far more reliable than drums. Constant maintance is required to keep drum brakes at there best, wheel cylinders dont last long before they leak, brake shoes & linings wear out and require constant adjustment and drums just dont have the same stopping power as discs.

AND theres allways someone that wants to drive your mini faster than you and when they cook the drums and crash your car you wish you had fitted the discs!

This was probably about 2 years ago - at Scott (poeee) 's 21st birthday.

Pretty funny times... this was imitating Jamie, one of the guys in Big Brother (the one with the dread locks, always wore a headband, and said 'like' a lot).

Now your turn!!

edit: and thats my old (green) Rover in the background.

Yes I see your point. But after staining my undies (not a good look) I decided to take action.

Of course whatever brakes you have, they need to be kept in top condition. I suppose the point I should have made is "keep your car well serviced, find a good reputable Mini Mechanic and visit him/her often."

My opinion of Disk vs Drums is based on my experience alone, and I thought I would share said opinion.

Either way you have a very nice looking Mini Fiona. Enjoy the good times driving it. I too have a 1976 Clubman, but doesnt look anywhere near as nice as yours at the moment, oh and its also in lots of peices :(
