I re wire headlights using original colour coded wires ! For a reasonable fee of course. It is my job ! Bring it to me and job is done. Professionally.

do you work at that auto electricians on camp cable rd with the mini out the front???

You would only need to update the wiring if you were using really high wattage globes. I used to run 55/90 in my rally car so I upgraded the wiring. Generally a 55/60 will be fine on a standard looms wiring (after splicing in the relay) and of course subject to Lucas' alter ego being in a good mood.

What I have done in several minis is to disconnect the three-way connections under the bonnet slam panel and used the wires from the cabin to drive the relays and then connect the relays back into the separate wires that go to each headlight.

Never had any problem with the existing wires from this point carrying enough current for one light only.

Usually mount the relays below the grille opening and then just run wires from this junction down the centre bar behind the grille and back up again.

If you use the correct bullet connectors on the new wires so that they can just plug into the existing looms, you can always go back to the existing circuit to limp home if the relay gives up.
