The Cooper S is valued more highly because it has a successful racing pedigree and it has the iconic mini shape. As for a percentage, putting any # on it would be a guess.

Speedy, your guess is your oppinion and what i'm after. Put a figure on it mate.

Given that then, and looking at the fact that you can buy a nice GT for bugger all over $10,000, and an S in pieces for five, I'd say that the GT is probably only "valued" at about 65-75% of an S. Which suits me fine

Chow, I respect your opinion and thank you for your post.
There is no right or wrong answer here, just peoples opinions so keep them coming.
I want to hear from anyone with an opinion!

Maybe it's like bi-polar. You get the roundy or you get the clubbie. They call 'em both minis but they are very different cars aesthetically. I love them both but with my money it's the roundy, the threatened species that counts more.

Heart not head.

And btw, Doc, you nailled it. It ain't necessarily so that rarity is the thing.

Its half the thing. The other half is desirability. Everyone wants a Ferrari 250 GTO but only 39 where made and fewer survive today.

As for a percentage comparison for the S and GT, I'd say 70-80%.

I'd go the 80% option too

I wonder how many non-mini people would have ever heard of a GT, lack of general recognition must impact the pricing - everyone knows what a Cooper S is

I don`t want a Ferrari 250 GTO

I like both & value both "S"s & GTs equally----> (in equal conditions)

But my favourite is the Monaco :-)

In my opinion the difference is because "everyone know's" the cooper s was the race mini that won Bathurst etc , very few people know the Clubman GT was all but identical but in a clubman body . To a real mini enthusiast they should be valued accordingly but the average person only knows the cooper name ....

Every marque goes through the same struggles. Jag E types, ferraris, porsche 911's. It's nothing to get emotional over unless you're new.

In Italy Innocenti made a Cooper 1300, In Spain Authi made a GT with a round nose body,In South Africa they made the Mini GTS, different markets different values. If I had the money and a garage with 24 hour security I,d have one of each !
