I have wondered before about a removable fusebox or section of wiring , have a connector with say 4 main wires (ignition , lights , fuel pump , starter for example) wired into an 8 position connector so the 4 wires come into positions 1, 3, 5 , 7 for example and go out 8 , 6 , 4 , 2 of the male connector . The female connector is then wired up so all 4 wires are connected when it's plugged in . If you are leaving the car then pull the connector and take i with you , might help to paint all the wires the one colour near the plug to make it that little bit harder for someone to bluff their way through if they found it . This could be hidden anywhere around a car really , not sure of durability of connectors being removed all the time though .

My advise....

1) Fit an internal bonnet lock.
2) You need to remove the power from the front of the car, so fit a cut off switch somewhere betwen the battery and the engine bay.
3) Fit a fuel cut off.
4) Fit a lock to the handbrake. (Mini thieves do not carry bolt cutters, they carry a teaspoon, a screwdriver and a bit of wire  )
5) Fit some other lock like a brake pedal to steering wheel or a club lock.
6) If you have a flash sound system just leave your doors unlocked, it will save damage. Or better still, just leave the sub and speakers in their boxes and leave the boxes outside the car. They may leave the car and take the boxes.
Anything that can be seen is increasing your risk.
7) Immobilisers are a waste of time. Give me a locked car with an immobiliser and I will start it in less than a minute.

In my first roundie i put a chrome toggle switch in clear view that cut power to the coil. Never got stolen so it must have worked.

I like the reed switch and relay idea, would be very easy to set up.

I had the coil cut if switch idear in my last mini...

I used a swich that was for the two speed wipers
ie.....up middle and down....I only had single speed wipers
the up was wired for the wipers..single speed...middle was nothing..wipers off... and down was coil cut off....it look standard to the eye....
hiding a new switch is hard in a mini....but using one in the standard possition is harder to pick
cant remember if it was a standard mini switch or not....as it was done by an electrition..
but it looked standard...
same idear could be wired to the fule pump if its electirc...
....and even a good alarm....any cams one will do...
would cost no more that $300 idd say...
ultasonics if fitted properly are great...and dont play up as others will say if installed the right way...
comes in handy on hot days as you can leave ya windows open a little....

The only problem with fuel cut offs is there is still enough fuel in the line and bowl to go a couple of km's :? although you can simply turn the fuel off before you get to your park and just wait for the car to use any remaining fuel on idle before you kill the ignition and lock the car.
A club lock is good and maybe pad locking the gear stick to the handbrake like the moke guys do.

my lil grunt has contact points riveted throughout the car. I am guessing that it was for some kind of security setting.
One on either side of the front seats, and one on the inside of the boot lid. The boot lid also has an electrical switch (that takes a key) hidden under the number plate flap.
They have also installed a metal rod that goes from the inside of the boot, up the side, and when in the engaged position, goes through the drivers door. Locking it through the boot!

my wifes old boss used to rally minis (think his wife still does), he then got a cosworth to rally. Anyway, one of them, dont know which, had an extremely sensitive pressure switch under the steering column shroud. You had to press on the exact pressure point (very lightly) while kicking it in the guts for it to work. Wish I knew more details!

This has been discussed before.

Last time I contributed suggestions my post was altered by a mod so I'll leave it to others to give examples of ways to secure your car.
