Twins will """ALWAYS""" work better than singles,,, however, that is simply because of the manifold restriction & un-even distribution of mixture

if one was to fit a pair of 1&1/2 carbs to the same motor , then fit a single 1&3/4 carb, there would be very little difference, but there will be a difference !!!!!!!!!!!

The twins will always win

But all that is to pretend that both systems have been tuned to perfection

I here soooo much about certain carb set-ups (be it twins or single) being better than others, but the fact is that most people havn`t had their system perfectly set up nor perfectly tuned,,, here in lays the main problem when we have a bunch of people talking all different results from differing carb assys & systems

carbs differ, manifolds differ more so,,,, but the biggest variation in this whole thing on mini forums is the people who tune them,,, that is the biggest variable

if you notice the underlying theme here you will understand what i`m saying,,, if you don`t,,, well,,, then you won`t :-) & in that case i wouldn` let you tune my carby(s)

:-)

Iv`e set up twin SUs on a 360cc Honda Zot & had it screaming ,,, yet i`ve also set up a single 1&3/4SU on my 4.4 litre Layland P76 V8 engine,,, But i`ve also know many many people who couldn`t set up a tow ball properly :-)

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.
