Its all to do with colours. The early '70s ones were painted grey and grungy green and dirty white (with stains running down from the fuel cap), whereas the later ones were painted bright red or lime green or metallic colours (but usually yellow).

At least that's what it seemed like when I was a teenager.

This ones got hydrolastic, drums all round, rubber unis and i believe a 1098. Also has a column mounted ignition. The compliance plate says november 1972.
Is this just a mix of leyland parts? Or been messed around with at some point?

Both My Leyland Mini and my current Mini S still have the speedo hole in the middle with a plate screwed on with four screws. Must have been cheaper than to reset the production line in the factory.

The hole was not just for the speedo. It was for the rotodip spit to run through the car.

So just looking at the actual Mini Clubman which became the Leyland Mini S..
Center ignition > Steering Lock.
Low Back seats > Headrests > Tombstone seats.
1100cc > 998cc.
Remote change gearbox > Rodchange gearbox.
Rubber Unis > Pot joints
2 dial dash > 3 dial dash.
Steel wheels with hubcaps > Steel sports wheels + Flares.
Rotodip > Rust
Single circuit brakes > Dual circuit brakes.
Badges Mini Clubman > Leyland Mini S.
Blue engine paint > Black engine paint.
Manual pump windscreen washer > Electric washer > changed washer bottle.

Did all later (76-78ish) Leyland Mini's have 3 gauges? I thought only Mini S' had the three gauge?
Are normal late Leyland Mini's badged as 'Leyland Mini' or still Clubmans? Cherry is a 76 Leyland Mini S and has both the S badge on the grill and the Mini Clubman badge on the boot?
Sorry Jess I meant to say Leyland Mini S I will go back and edit it.

They stopped using that when they started making rust-prone Minis at the Enfield plant.
