The cost is in the labour, once its apart you may as well rebuild this or replace that.
Some fasteners shouldn't even be reused, so there's a minimum of stuff to do.

It all depends on how fast you want to go and the quality of parts you put in the engine and gearbox, etc, etc...........average price for an engine and gearbox rebuild for a streeet car is about $5000 including removal, stripping, refitting and ready to be driven away.

my 1275 is at wynnum getting rebuilt atm
can tell you price when it is all done, but at the moment it is looking to be $3grand or so, pretty much standard. i have given them all the parts to do it, took the engine to them etc etc.
was very happy with the job they did on my spitfire. downside is waiting, they take their time and are generally busy

I just recoed a 1275A+ and A+ box.
Parts and machining alone (no strip or assembly labour) were around $2.2K.
But this included reground cam, lifters, lightened flywheel, balance, etc etc.
The gearbox was real good, had been done up by someone before and needed only a few bearings, a diff pinion, diff pin and planet gears.

It all depends on how bad the gearbox is. Replacing worn parts can add up to a lot of extra $$$.

If I was you I'd look a little more local to yourself as they know what has been fitted, how its machined etc, etc.........If (god forbid) things go a little pear shaped or mechanical issues arise.

I'm sure there are some knowledgable people who know the ins and outs of a good ol' A-series engine up in QLD.

Some people/workshops wont warranty engines and gearboxes, etc ....when it is fitted and run in by someone else, even the owner as they do not know thier mechanical knowledge.

Ive seen those engines and boxs at northern minis....they seem ok....
mine cost me just under $7000 it was built by link automotove in 2000. but that was to build engine and box ...plus all the other bits i wanted...plus fitting etc....
it was a lot of money for me back then....dont think idd do it again...hope i never have too.
i remember having to wait for the head as they got like 12 from the uk and all were stuffed bar one.....
northern have a vast supply of parts as he goes to uk at least once a year...ive gotten parts of him i never thourght idd get brand new.so i suppose his engines would be built to a good standard.
I got a 12 month wanenty with my engine...as long as i serviced it with link.
hes got a nice metro turbo engine there....would suit rebuild...i allways want to take it home but the misses says noooooo
