I have a brand new UK rack in my new Mk2 Cooper S and came standard with 3mm of play, i'l be ordering one of those $100 reco Aussie racks from the good Doctor.

The 'new tooling' racks are 10 times the rack that the old black ones were.. After fitting these racks to MANY cars with great success, i'll stand by them.
Only thing I do is:
Add about 200mls of 90/140 oil
Replace the Rack boot to rack (not the other end) with welding wire, rather than plastic cable ties :-)

In my honest opinion you will not go wrong with the 'new tooling' ones.
