Yes this true, However you still need a air flow meter as he has made one for his V6 Drag car.

And another (better) one-
STOCK-CODE: KC5300 RRP: $62.95
Qty 1+ $62.95 Qty 5+ $56.50

Digital Fuel Mixture Display Kit for Cars

Refer: Silicon Chip September and October 2000
This brilliant dashboard mounting unit monitors and displays your car¹s air-fuel ratio in real time on a three digit display and at the same time on the programmable 10-LED bargraph. Indicates ratios between 11.8 - 20.6 for petrol and 12.7 - 21.5 for propane/LPG. Some features: fully lean and fully rich indication, fast 220ms update time for bargraph, 440ms upgrade time for 3 digit display, 0-1V display for setting up adjustment, dot or bar option for bargraph and auto display dimming for night driving. All this in a compact case measuring only 83 x 54 x 31mm. Leaded petrol engines will soon poison an EGO sensor, so it is recommended that kit be used for tuning purposes only.

Kit includes case with PCB¹s, pre-programmed PIC micro, 7 segment displays, red acrilic, hook-up wire and all electronic components.
- Case includes a laser cut & silk screened front panel
- Clamp included

I'll buy one to play with..:P

www.autospeed.com has a couple of articles on building and installing an air/fuel meter. I'm pretty sure they talk about the jaycar kits that have been mentioned. Looks pretty easy but it is recommended that the oxygen sensors be fitted as close to the manifold as possible so a nut would need to be welded onto your exhaust. The Maniflow LCB for injection Mini's have this built in to the collector. You can also buy pretty air/fuel 2 inch gauges but they are a bit expensive compared to the kits. I think they may also be sold on autospeed but haven't looked recently.

I have a copy of one of the articles if anyone wants me to email it to them.

Sorry drmini, I was wrong
Both the ones you have posted will work if you have a EGO, also the kc5195 will work.
The one the auto elec used was;

STOCK-CODE: KC5374 RRP: $27.95
Qty 1+ $27.95 Qty 5+ $24.95

Smart Fuel Mixture Display for Fuel injected Cars

Ref: High Performance Electronics Projects for Cars - Silicon Chip Publications.
We have sold thousands of mixture display kits over the years, providing many enthusiasts with a great meter for their car. This new ‘smart’ version has a few additional touches such as auto dimming for night driving, emergency lean-out alarm, and better circuit protection. Another great feature is the ‘dancing’ display which operates when the ECU is operating in closed loop. Closed loop means that the air/fuel ratio is optimum for fuel economy and emission performance. Kit supplied with PCB and all electronic components.
* Car must be fitted with air flow and EGO sensors (standard on all EFI systems) for full functionality.

Cheers Pete

theyre really cool

you only need an EGO and its easiest/best to install one permanently in your extractors/manifold

dont worry about the leaded thing because theres no such thing anymore and the additives dont wreck ego sensors

rotator cuff tendon repair?
how serious is it, because that in itself is rather concerning

19mm tear in the tendon. It used to be a really painful recovery but mine has been fairly pain free. Six weeks in a sling and 6 months to total recovery. Then I have to have the right one done. Life is a beeeetch sometimes. I have to basically sacrifice a year to something caused by work. No manual hobbies of any kind that affects my left arm then my right.

It is possible to use thermocouples to monitor the header temps. They obviously only tell you the temps and if you know what temp your motor runs best at then the mixture can be set to acheive that. I've got a spare data logger and am instal to use it with thermocouples. Just drill a couple of holes in the header pipe and screw them in. Ther are a couple of cheap multimeters around that will read directly from them, I have seen one in Jaycar. When the racing cars were running unleaded this was all they used as the Lambda sensors didn't last.
