Hey guys,

I only on friday got my mini insured with shannons, 'stationery, not powered by itself', 5k cover for about $150/year. The guy i was talking to said that when i've got her back on the road after 'extensive makeover :) ', to just provide before and after pics, and adjust the policy. Does this sound right, or am missing something? Sorta sounds a bit too good!?
I only ask coz i have 2 houses, 1 harley, and a daily driver covered with NRMA, and when i asked them about the mini, they wanted to screw me over even more than they already do  !

Do you have to request salvage rights, or do shannons just include that :? ?

Thanx,

shannons apparently include salavage rights already.. but with the whole policy thing, once u provide the pics showing the before and after , i think the adjust the policy means change the policy to suit it being now a roadworthy and used vehicle, which will probably mean going through normal insurence premuims etc... but i could be wrong.

NRMA with the Subaru (Cheapest) though i don't really like them...

Shannons are the only company that is willing to insure my car for under 25yo and for 30k.

GIO Veteran and Classics is by far the best if you can get it IMO. Great service and very competitive rates on our 68 Moke and 76 Clubby but they wont touch modified cars (with starlet conversions)

Shannons are very good with claim handling though and do look after you. I find that they are a bit up and down with their service and premium quotes depending who you talk to on the phone and it shouldn't be that way.

No matter what insurance company you use you are likely to get some bone head who doesn't know his stuff. Just ask to speak to someone else.

In 1998 GIO told me that they couldn't provide 3rd party property for my Lincoln because they didn't have it listed. I explained that they weren't actually insuring my car with TPPD but still no dice. When I rang back the next day to try to get an explanation they told me "no problem", that person yesterday didn't know what they were talking about.

I'm now with Shannons and have found them exceptional to deal with.

LSV (Lumley Special Vehicles) here too. They used to be called Vigil Insurance. Started my policy with them when I was 23 so they deffinitely insure under 25's. Shannons wouldn't insure a vehicle after a rebuild without seeing it first and I didn't want to risk it on the drive so rang Vigil and they accepted just photos and receipts and gave me a great deal that actually got better over the years.

When I was under 25 age access was waived if the car was over 30yrs old, salvage rights are automaticaly included as well as a free windscreen replacement, agreed value etc. Excess is just $250.

When I had a claim (a hit and run and the other party was traced by police), they sorted everything out with no delays and good service.

My insurance is unlimited miles and use as long as its not driven to work regularly (thats the actual condition on my policy 'No limitations. Not regularly driven to work'.) but I'm recall they have unlimitd use policies too, just call them.

My cover is so cheap it ridiculous realy, and this year I moved to another suburb, 5 minutes up the road and my premium went down by $100. Awesome.
Its like those rubbish Alianz testimonial commercials, just not complete bull.

I've been looking at insurance options lately as well. I'm leaning towards GIO based on this thread, but I can't find anything about Veteran and Classics on their website??

I had to ring and ask. Then the phone operator had to ask someone else....

Cheers,
Mark.

Call LSV and talk to them about what you want, i have 2 minis on a 'stable' policy, i can only drive one at a time but there is only one of me, they are really really good.

Sent them pics, they went to my agreed value with no hassle, very very highly recomended.

I left shannons after suncorp bought them their service nosedived (for me personally) including cancelling my insurance due to their stuff up. :x

I just feel that the staff have no training and don't care (not all but certainly some)

I have a friend from one of the car clubs we're in who works for Shannons - I think I need his direct line lol

Anyone who works in insurance who deals with the public has to have training on not only the product they sell but also on things like privacy, handling disputes, a bit about insurance law etc etc

Sounds like you got someone that just didn't care or was looking forward to going home at 5. They're are always a few dropkicks around that like to make life hard so if you get someone that is really helpful write their name down and ask for them next time you call, if you can establish some form of "relationship" with them they will be more than willing to help you out or suggest something that may save you some more dollars.

had a call back from Shannons this morning. It seems they are in the process of changing the rules so that there is no age excess for drivers under 25 where the car is over 35 yo. There was no explanation as to why I wasn't given this information yesterday when I called, apparently the person I spoke to had been there 10 years and was considered one of their better operators!

I would be very interested to find out more about the excess being waved!
