Personally, I think you should buy yourself a nice MIG welder on gas and get to work. But I am one of the crazy people who is always saving rusty Minis. Have fun!

you've just got to negotiate the terms of his doing the work and make sure he get's something from it as well . Get him to go to a mini event so he get's hooked too , show him some serious resto threads on here and elsewhere so he can see what's possible and what parts are available so he can see he doesn't have to make everything from scratch .

How long is a piece of string, and how much time are you willing to put aside to wind it up.

There is a lot of work there but it is fixable and well worth doing . See if you can find another shell to use chunks out of (something with a rusted floor or low down accident damage for example) .

just chop the roof off just above the doors etc and stick another roof on. Much easier than patching the roof and trying to get the curves right.
The "A" pillars[front ] can be cut anywhere, "B"pillars preferably above seat belt mounts, and "C" basically around the fold at the bottom.

personally i would fix the another shell and swap all tthe ss bits over, thats alot of work, and if you chop it up and panels dont line up perfectly you gonna have some big issues.

thats what i would do, plus your other one has more sentimental value :)

keep the rusty one, and down the track when you get enthused fix that up for your sons first car :)

By the sounds of it the roof swap sounds like a good idea, I'm sure their is someone on here who will have a suitable donor roof.....I have a panel van roof hanging up in my shed

Thanks David, how much "skill" or experience is needed for a roof removal and transplant? Is there a chance of decreased strength once the pillars are cut and welded?

Thanks for the offer, I do have another clubman shell which is in better condition, so I think this will become the donor shell.
