Macnaught grease guns are very good, I have an air operated Macnaught that takes 25kg drums of grease. It is a bit of an overkill for working on Minis but it was great when I owned my own truck.

I have a Tecalemit cartridge gun and it is top quality. They are easy to use and cartridge changing and bleeding is very easy. You can also refill it from another gun (handy if you have a big ass air operated bulk gun)
Lever gun(like I have)...

or the trigger gun..

At work they buy Alemite guns. I don't like them. Bleeding the gun after changing a cartridge is always a pain in the bum. And the trigger bends from use.

I know where I'll pump my next ~$100.

Look at the handle to see if it looks like it will bend under load.

Look at the tread where the cylinder joins the pump, a fine thread will cross thread or strip easily. The Alemite gun has a coarse pressed metal thread that is also a bit dodgy.

Also look at how you bleed the gun for trapped air. The Tecalemit gun has a bleed screw and is very easy to use.

I bought a cheap gun once and when I fitted a cartridge to it the thread stripped just from the load of the spring! I never even had a chance to pull the trigger! So I took it (and the half empty cartridge) back and got the Tecalemit gun. That was about 14 years ago.

Macnaught guns are usually sold at Castrol dealers. But you need a big dealer and not a Supercrap type of place.
Tecalemit guns are sold at good spare parts places.
Truck parts places and Tractor places are good places to pick up grease guns.

Hey MiniMad
i grease a whole aircraft once every two months.
Its worth spending the money on a good gun as you'll never
have to by another one......ever!!
Chuck a rag round the end of the hose and the nipple and put alot of forward pressure toward the nipple and apply big delibrate squeezes to the gun, this should work well and you wont get grease from asshole to breakfast while your doin it as the rag laps it all up
