I think they dropped the magic wand gearshift when they dropped the Clubman/Mini 1100 range and replaced them with the Leyland Mini/Leyland Mini S. So it would have been about mid 73.

My brothers 78 (one of the very last) has a rod change as std... but i guess thats to be expected that late in the marque!
