If I were you I'd rebuild the carb. Pull it off from manifold end, buy a manual, some WD40 or Throttle Body cleaner and way you go!

yes i think i will i have ordered the carb kit and will see how that goes, but after just taking a spin it is really trying if i want the tacho needle anywhere near 5000rpm it really doesnt wanna go higher than 4750rpm, and it has no power, you put your foot down and its just building up the power really REALLY slowly, i would think for a 1100 with a exhaust and 1.5 su that it would at least go a bit harder in a small car, or is that just how they are? Any info would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

That's right. Undo it and by holding itat an angle you can lift the piston with it. Most probably not the recommended method but it worked. Some carbies had a pin under the damper to do the same thing. It was external beside the jet adjuster, in that area anyway. It ifted the damper the exact amount needed for the mixture test.

Are you comparing the performance to some level you've had before? It probably isn't going to be that quick anyway..

What are the engine specs?
extractors?
Head?
Cam?
etc...

Yeah Josh....lets get back to basics!!!

I wish all engine power problems could be fixed just by changing the needle and seat!!

How tired is the engine mate??? Do you know if it is the first or second time 'round the clock!! The head and rings probably need attention....

How good are the points, distributor cap, plugs and ignition leads?? Is the timing right??

If you have just bought the thing then you need to check a few things and then get it up to a standard where you know the condition of all the items that effect tune.

To continue....does it have a fuel filter? Is it old and blocked up....How old is the air cleaner element??? etc etc etc ..... :D

yeah a stock 1100 will rev to about 5200 -5500 rpm and will be really nasty above 5000
they are reasonably slow when stock but can still be driven quite fast once momentum is built. It will feel asthmatic on hard acceleration.

with an exhaust and carb it should be quite quick and will rev up nicely.

you don't want a lot of rpm from an 1100 cos they're a stroker.

what you are saying sounds like a carb problem or a timing problem
