Whats the issue... i was the second last bidder.... I wanted the item... and i bid as much as i felt comfortable... When you have a car such as a GT... its worth spending the money to complete it!

I reckon the last three posts make more sense than any of the first lot.

Probably why there's been no resopnse....

BTW - I'm the "knob" who bought the knob.

I'm not about to sit here and defend my decission to win this item to some here who are still apparently living in the dark ages and also apparently know the "true value" of everything.

I will say that I respect the view of some who would/could never part with their hard-earned for something like this and I do agree it is a crazy price to pay for for a gear knob - but consider this - an ex-police cooper S sold on eBay the other day for $17,000 that needed a full restoration. Does that make the person who bought it a dill or does it say something about the value of what we all sit here discussing - mini's? Our love for mini's is what's driving prices for everything up. Why would you sit there and begrudge the fact that a car YOU own and its accessories are going UP in value???? The mind boggles.

The guy who happens to come across a "barn find" type cooper s like the one I mentioned above and pick it up "cheap" is lauded and praised as a hero .. but the fact is he's just a lucky bastard. The guy who sold it to him missed out on potentially BIG dollars and in my view is the dill. Because people will pay WHATEVER they think something is worth to THEM for something rare.

You can sit here and argue till you're blue in the face about what YOU think the TRUE value of something is.... but as the old saying goes, "It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it". And that's a fact.

All of the other fluff and cheap shot's that some here insist on taking to try to get a laugh, well good luck to you - to jules, doug and jon thanks for injecting some common sense into the discussion.

I'm not ashamed or embarrased about paying $390 for something that is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get. In fact I'm very happy to have bought it :D

Cheers,
BC.

I wonder if we'll ever find out who the other "knobs" that bidded were?? Probably not

LOL!!! s'all good Cam. Nice to see you have the balls to come out with it  sorry you missed out mate.

It's just the "holier than thou" attitude that irks me.

I'm all for healthy discussion about these things and was just as surprised as anyone with how high the bidding went.

like someone I have great respect for said to me, "if there's something you want bad enought then sometimes you just have to close your eyes, put your balls on the line and have a crack". Or you can just sit by and let everthing pass you by while you sit there and blame the rest of the world for why you missed it. I've done that enough times and didn't want to be that person again.

At least the item was properly described. The thing that annoys me the most on eBay are Mini parts that have words COOPER S or CLUBMAN GT in the item heading or description when they clearly have absolutely nothing to do with those models.

I don't think I'm betraying trust by saying the gentleman who I bought the ex-Police Cooper S from last week was offered a few thousand dollars by someone who happened to see it in his property. I'm guessing they knew what it really was. Luckily the owner got some expert advice from someone with integrity who frequents this forum (you know who you are) who also could've exploited the situation. I don't know who is more excited by the final outcome - the ex-owner and his wife who landed a windfall in their eyes and can't keep the smile from their faces, or me who now has a very, very unique vehicle that just needs a bit of TLC to bring it back to the state it was in when it scared the daylights out of unsuspecting motorist on NSW roads back in the 70's.

P.S. Brown Clubman - I see the REAL reason you bought the knob was so you could create a new Avatar!!

Put simply, if you are whinging about the price then you are not in the market.

Congratulations to both Brown Clubman and winabbby, both super rare items worth very cent. 8)

Congrats on winning the knob. For all the nay sayers, who obviously have a shed full of GT gear knobs, Put em on ebay and sell at a buy it now for 50c, because after all that is all they are worth....apparently....

That's inspired me to redouble my efforts to re-unite the 2 parts of mine for when I win lotto and restore my GT.....
and it's the larger bit that's been misplaced...

...but think I'll wait till the weather warms up a bit yet before venturing into the garage ....
... and yep my 71 GT (rip) came with a standard knob....
..... the 72 with this special one...

I sat there watching the auction just to see what it would sell for, i must say i was surprised at the end price, but hey it's worth it if thats what you want to pay for it .

Nice one Skender, I was wondering if you might have had something to do with that

It'll compliment the flash gear change.
