I reckon the last three posts make more sense than any of the first lot.
Probably why there's been no resopnse....
BTW - I'm the "knob" who bought the knob.
I'm not about to sit here and defend my decission to win this item to some here who are still apparently living in the dark ages and also apparently know the "true value" of everything.
I will say that I respect the view of some who would/could never part with their hard-earned for something like this and I do agree it is a crazy price to pay for for a gear knob - but consider this - an ex-police cooper S sold on eBay the other day for
$17,000 that needed a full restoration. Does that make the person who bought it a dill or does it say something about the value of what we all sit here discussing - mini's? Our love for mini's is what's driving prices for everything up. Why would you sit there and begrudge the fact that a car YOU own and its accessories are going UP in value???? The mind boggles.
The guy who happens to come across a "barn find" type cooper s like the one I mentioned above and pick it up "cheap" is lauded and praised as a hero .. but the fact is he's just a lucky bastard. The guy who sold it to him missed out on potentially BIG dollars and in my view is the dill. Because people will pay WHATEVER they think something is worth to THEM for something rare.
You can sit here and argue till you're blue in the face about what YOU think the TRUE value of something is.... but as the old saying goes, "It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it". And that's a fact.
All of the other fluff and cheap shot's that some here insist on taking to try to get a laugh, well good luck to you - to jules, doug and jon thanks for injecting some common sense into the discussion.
I'm not ashamed or embarrased about paying $390 for something that is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get. In fact I'm very happy to have bought it
Cheers,
BC.
I wonder if we'll ever find out who the other "knobs" that bidded were?? Probably not
