I think it's good, especially if it's kept real simple.
So often I've asked tradesmen hows this done or that done......so
often the answers are so vague.

Thanks The Ranger 89, that would be great. But I was hoping I could do one better with a sticky where I and the other shy panel beaters on this forum that have PM'd me from time to time could assist With YOUR specific problem rather than trying to gues what you need. I was going to start it with some basic stuff that you always need to know and let you guys take it from there. Oh and yes if you like I can show you HOW to spray two colours on one panel, its not overly hard but it may take a bit of practice... I'd worry about learnig to paint one colour well first before worrying about effects. I'll still show you if you if thats what you want to know.

Mini4T, yeah that was and is the feed back I've had from other people on other threads and outside of this forum so I thought "hey" this forums a great place help out. I've already learnt a lot from it so its only returning the favour :D

MG Rocket, you've mentioned that before a while ago I think. There are a lot of people that won't give up info for a number of reasons, conflict of interest, can't be bothed, don't know how to explain it etc etc. I'm not into that crap. If you want to have a go no one should stop you at least having some idea where to start.

Miki, my grammar is always reasonable. Mi spellig on the ova hand kan be kind a bad at times. But I spell the important parts right :D

I will probably post a draft version of the paint "how to" on thursday or friday in Mini Chat so you guys can come back with your thoughts and questions on it, before making it final and submitting it. Its no good writing it if its not helpful or hard to understand.

Thanks for the feed back so far, its all being noted. (except that first pervert who wanted to know about my wang, that was just wierd and I'm now seeking counciling)

A 'how to' section on spray painting and body prep would be great. So far all the advice you've given me has been spot on. Go for it.
marc :)

You can never have too much instruction - the clearer and to the point the better - so far you have shown you know your stuff and you are prepared to share your knowledge - go for it

i don`t think anyone can help me when it comes to painting,,, i will stuff it up no matter what anyone says to me :-(

i have my 2 good panel beating -spray painting buddys (Stew & Archie) who do all that stuff for me

But i feel that seeing a whol heap of people asking about how to paint & panel that it`s a dam good idea to have all (or as much) info as possible in the one spot within this site would be an excellent idea,,, even i would read it & try to learn :-)

Edit--> Oh soo,, good on ya Phatty katty Wang dang :-)

jasonf only if it means that I get to take a road trip up to the beautiful New England you lucky bastard!!

Good road trips up this way...might have to set up a guided scenic run for members passing through heading south.....diverted runs from Grafton through Dorrigo then back down to the highway at Repton and then revers for those heading north , easy to lay out an awesome mini route/run up this way:lol:

How about to start from the basics...

We all know you get the best equipment you can afford....but if you will only use that equipment perhaps 1 full respray and an additional 2 or 3 jobs in the future...what would be decent setup to use.

Minimum compressor size in both 10 and 15 amp, is it ok to bank 2 cheapy compresors...etc, what would minumum gun size be etc....is a standard gravity fed (non HVLP) better than using a pickup etc...

I have seen these questions quite a bit on here, and would be easier to point them to a sticky lol....plus I am interested to know also

Bully, MiniMan, jasonf,

Thanks. I have already got compressor requirements and gun types covered in the draft that I started cos you're right they are common questions with simple answers. I'll cover them. Thanks guys.

MiniMan if you bastardise an A series engine to make it work with a Jap bike head sucessfully, then I'm sure you can paint, you can probably cure cancer, you probably know the name of the guy who shot JFK from the grassy knoll and you are probably harbouring the meaning of life, Osama Bin Lardens wear abouts and the truth about the much fabelled clitorus. I looked at doing that and decided it would be easier to design a whole new head then stuff around with retro fitting a bike head.. But you managed to make it work so you probably can paint and you are probably an expert at it and you are probably just to modest to admit it. tell us the truth Mr Read   We're waiting.

Thanks guys, I should have a draft up by the end of the week. But it probably won't have photos until I have time to go right thru it all and photograph everything.

Of course jasonf,

What I am working on for painting will cover everything from the point that all panel beating is done to where you can start showing it off to your mates. primer to wax. Sound good? As I said i will post a draft so that you guys can all look at it and tell me if there is anything missing off it that you want to know, or incase you want to tell me that its crap and that I give terrible discriptions.

I want to make sure that its actually helpful before getting it posted in the how to section, because you can't put up posts in the how to section, only procedures.

It might take a couple of weeks but if you think it will be more usefull I can look at attaching a video link to the How To procedure. So that you can read it and then see it? I will have to learn how to use Youface or what ever its called so that might slow me down... I can't promise that it will be a sucess but if there is interest I will do my best to master this damn computor. Yay or Nay?

Sounds fantastic. Esp keen on hearing what compressor and gear to buy for what paint your using. Any chance you could include approximate prices, say $xx for 4l of enamel is good.

Thanks Phat Kat, how lucky are we on this forum to have someone as knowledgeable as you (i've read your posts) my mini was mostly striped (not roof) of paint. The panels were left for many years unprotected and have got rusty. After hitting the affected areas with a seaweed disc some panels still feel rough (not big divots tho and metal still solid) what needs to be done before any paint can be applied. Also the paint on other panels appear to have been scrapped off (maybe with the use of paint stripper and razor blade) Should i continue with this method or sand blast the paint off in hard to get at areas. any help offered will be greatly appreciated.
P.S The rusty front mudguard has a 75mm stain on top then runs down the guard, i'm thinking this could be from brake fluid and if so will this create problems for me when it comes time to paint.
thanks again, i look forward to reading more of your work. javascript:emoticon(':D')
