I suppose when you think about the way the load on the bearing is applied it is no wonder they want to fail.
If it was just a simple rotating bearing it would be fine but the amount of weight that the spring is pushing plus the rotation plus the shock loadings....

It is an oscillating motion, not the best application for needle bearings really.
