Fabricated the instrument panel fascia over the past couple of days. Was a bigger task than i expected, everytime i took the next step with something i have to re-engineer something else for it to fit

I used a sheet of aluminum i scored from a freind. It was easy to cut and shape. Was actually a mirror finish on it and looked trick when i first finished it but decided it was too much and didnt match the interior so i painted it plain old gloss black

Looks ok, not really a works replica panel but it does its job. I was keen to get the guages fitted as i was sure the current guages were not correct. I was right.

I will remove the panel next weekend and complete some trimmings on the sides and re-paint it all so its smicko! I also need to go back in and solder all the wires as i ran out of time and need the car back on the road for work this week.

I will be adding another guage in the blank hole, possibly a vacuum guahe or clock, not sure yet.

Anyway i will keep you guys posted. Thanks.

you legend I was looking for this thread the other day with no luck. 8)
Love your work and I agree with painting it black. I would say it was bling the reflection from the sun would make driving difficult at times.
Did you fix it to the bottom shelf

Looks great , how is it to drive with, have you hit it with your hands yet or is it well and truly clear ?

Actually the mirror finish was so good and being a reasonably large panel, it was like having a mirror mounted on the dash. Wasnt nice at all. So i decided to paint it black, looks more fitting anyway.

Plenty of room between the panel and steering wheel. My hands dont touch it or anything, plenty of room.

i am still yet to make a side trim panel for it. i used small peices of wood behind the panel to screw it into the steel behind.

feels great driving at night with this panel, with all the guages lit up, looks pretty trick.

once the engine/gearbox has been re-fitted and is running right i will endevour to complete the job properly.
