Mini K & Mk 2 S are also good but not as strong as a 3 syc. :D

I beg to differ, I once lunched a brand new Cooper S 1st gear outer ring with 1000 miles up. 1st time I dumped the clutch after full rebuild on a 1220 motor & box (way back when with 4.5 x 10" wheels and Olympic GT radials)- it broke clean through from the synchro lug cutout to the bottom of a tooth.
I also have a Morris 1100 box here with ALL 1st gear teeth gone off the cluster gear.

IMO you have to try pretty hard to break a Mk2S or Mini K box. Add a turbo...

Ive got a 3 synchro remote with what i guess is a 3.44. Didnt check when i put it in.

Im not in a position to compare to anything else, all ive ever driven was a shagged moke with a rod change.
And i have rubber unis and i will swap them when i rip the engine out, probably when it gets fuel injected and maybe turboed.

Rod change gearboxs are good when theyr'e new but that rod change set up is too poo poo for any serious work.

Well mine has lasted 8+ years of heavy driving without a hitch, I'm only now going to change the coupling/sleeve (whatever you want to call it) that joins the selector shaft from the shifter to the selector shaft into the gearbox.....its done track work, motorkhanas, various tours, interstate travel and 6+ years of daily driving, competed in heaps of "traffic light GP's" and I'm about to put more cc's through it this time, just because, although I am considering putting in a practically brand new cooper "s" ratio gear set in it just because I have one :D

Rodchange and 3,21:1 diff ratio w/ 10" wheels :)

Pot joints and thin drive shafts (they made them only for a very short period in the early 80's. About 40% lighter and just as strong) for me.

But I certainly will try a remote gearbox some day...
